Hi y'all! I'm going to be spending a few weeks in Melbourne and was wondering what the deal was.

Is the night life good? Is there anything I have to see or is it just a city where you have to experience it.

Cheers

I've lived in Melbourne for many years and I can tell you that the night life is great, if you can find it. Melbourne is famous for its tiny well-hidden bars down alley ways and up through non-signed doors. There are 3 main areas where you can go out in Melbourne: The city, Fitzroy and St Kilda.

A lot of backpackers stay in St Kilda and it's a very hip area with lots going on (right next to the beach). Lots of restaurants bars and cafes. I'd recommend checking out the Espy Hotel which always has live music and an interesting crowd.

The city is has quite a few large, well-known pubs/clubs/bars that I'm sure you'll enjoy, but I recommend finding a local to show you some of the hidden away bars. One of my favourites is Section 8 (or container bar as it's also known). It's down an alleyway off Lonsdale St and is an outdoors bar. Just a paved area really with some chairs, a bar and some portable toilets. This might sound cheap, but it's a really friendly place.

Fitzroy has 2 popular streets: Brunswick street and Smith Street. This is a more bohemian area with lots of artistic people. Brunswick St is probably my favourite place to go out in Melbourne because it's so friendly and there are so many places in close proximity. Try to check out The Night Cat when you're there. They have salsa classes on Thursdays and Sundays and live music most nights.

It all depends what you're into and what you want.

Where are you travelling from, JohnnyB?

Hi JohnnyB

Don't forget about South Yarra and Prahran. This is a very rich and glamorous area where you go when you want to get dressed up and look your best. Lots of bars and nightclubs. They play mainly house music and there's lots of places to dance.

Go for a walk along Chapel Street or Greville Street on a Friday or Saturday night and it can be like a red carpet at times Smiley

But Black_Kettle is right, it depends what you like.

Hope you have a great time in Melbourne. If you have any more questions, just ask Smiley

Hey, thanks for that. I'm from Toronto, Canada, but right now I'm in Brisbane, Australia.

I've also been told to go to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and lots of people say to go to the Great Ocean Road. So it looks like I'll have plenty to keep me busy Smiley

Cheers,

Johnny

My experience over a neatly arranged and well-provisioned Honeymoon bed breakfast was interesting.
