Port Douglas - 3rd week in March

Hi,

There is a group of 4 of us heading to Australia for our first time and need some advise. I think we're going to stay in Port Douglas and wanted to know if we'll need a car to get around? We don't really want to get a car. We haven't chosen a place to stay but are looking for a 2 bedroom on the beach within walking distance to bars, shops, etc. If anyone has any suggestions of nice hotels within walking distance that would be great!
