Also how does it all work with mobile phones? Sorry, I forgot to ask this in my last post. Will my current SIM card work or will I have to get a new one there? Can I get a cheap SIM card while I'm there and use that?

I don't want to get lost on safari and not be able to contact anyone. Also does anyone know what the coverage is like over there?

THanks again Smiley

I can probably answer this one as well. My phone roamed while I was over there onto the VodaCom network  but I didn't make any calls so I'm not sure of the pricing. You could also get cheap pre-paid SIM cards over there, but I didn't bother just because I wasn't there for that long and I wasn't really making any calls.

lol, I can't imagine someone getting lost on an organised safari and but there's always a first. Hope you don't need the phone Wink

cheers

The prepaid SIM card for South Africa with an international cell phone is the most convenient and economical solution for staying in touch while in South Africa. All incoming calls while in South Africa are FREE, regardless of where they originate. Pay the local rate for local calls and use your cellular phone in South Africa like you do at home. And unlike home, your South Africa SIM card and cell phone service is prepaid so there is no need for a contract.

The SIM Card for South Africa includes:

$9 (R60) starter airtime credit
FREE incoming calls
A local cell phone number in South Africa
Voicemail
SMS (text messaging)
No yearly contract, monthly charges or credit check
Please Note:
Your South Africa SIM Card will require a SIM-unlocked GSM 900 compatible international cell phone. If you do not have your own international cell phone, Telestial has several compatible models available for your review and consideration.

My experience over a neatly arranged and well-provisioned Honeymoon bed breakfast was interesting.
