Hi y'all

Just thought I'd see what you guys do to make friends when you're travelling.

I'm a smoker and find that sharing a smoke at a hostel is a great conversation starter. What about you?

Cheers,

Johnny

Hi JohnnyB,

I don't smoke so I have to rely on a little bit of charm to make new friends while travelling Wink I find that fellow travellers are always very friendly and are happy to have a chat to me about the places we've visited. We all have a love of travel in common Smiley

As far as making friends with locals go, I think they're a lot friendlier if you tell them that you're a traveller and you don't know anyone or where to go.

Hope this helps

Part of the fun of travelling is making new friends along the way.  The experiences you share, no matter how short-lived, will be something you cherish forever, even if the friendships last only as long as your stay.  However, for some, making friends can also be the scariest part of travel.  For those of us who are not so outgoing, striking up a conversation with a total stranger is equal to jumping out of a plane.  But with a little courage and some good intentions, it can be done.

My experience over a neatly arranged and well-provisioned Honeymoon bed breakfast was interesting.
