Car Hire in South Africa

Hi All,

We are travelling to SA in February and will be hiring a car (possibly AVIS) at Hoedspruit and dropping off at Nelspruit. This is to travel through Kruger.

The price of the car is expensive enough, but when you add on all the top insurance cover it bumps up the price about £300.

Sooooo - If anybody has hired a car to drive through Kruger, can I ask what you did about the insurance. I read somewhere about a seperate insurance you could take out privately that was quite a bit cheaper, has anyone done this?
We don't want to be given a huge bill at the end of hire if anything happens, but again, we don't want to spend the same as we do for a yearly insurance in England.
