Cairns Trip this spring

I'm going with a friend up to Cairns this spring and was hoping someone could give us some advice. I've never been to Cairns but hear it's beautiful. We're going to catch a plane up there at the end of September and stay for 6 weeks.

Is there enough to do in Cairns for 6 weeks or will we be best off seeing other nearby places?

Try to stay as close to the town centre as you can. There's NO public transport or anything so you'll be walking everywhere or catching taxis. Hotels or backpacker hostels may be much much cheaper 5-10km out of town, but they're not worth it.

Also get to The Woolshed. It's a great pub/bar. They do cheap meals (plus the hostels give you discount cards to get a whole dinner for $7). They also have theme nights and it's just a really fun place. Most people will be there. I remember buying a drink card for $15 that got me 5 vodka and oranges!! (I only barely remember it, but it definitely happened )

The people on the streets in Cairns try to sell these $25 pub crawls on the street. These are great too. Go on one of these. You get far more than the $25 worth of alcohol.
